Gulbarga, Apr 22 (UNI) A youth died and a teenaged girl was battling for life after the lovers entered into a suicide pact by consuming poison, dejected over their parents' refusal for their marriage, in Jewargi town in this district of Karnataka, today.
Police sources said Rajeshwari (18), a tenth standard student, and Yellappa (20), a final year college student, were in love. They took the extreme step as their parents were against their marriage as they hailed from different castes.
Both Yellappa and Rajeshwari had come to Gulbarga last evening and allegedly consumed poison near the railway track. The duo was rushed to hospital. While Yellappa was declared dead, the girl was battling for life at the government general hospital.
In their suicide note, the couple had requested their parents to bury them together.
