Jamia appoints committee to look into OBC quota implementation

New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) The Jamia Millia Islamia has appointed a six-member Committee to examine the implementation of 27 per cent OBC quota in the University.

Vice-Chancellor Mushirul Hassan appointed the committee headed by Centre for Distance and Open Learning Director Mohammad Miyan.

The Committee will submit its report within a month.

Members of the teaching and administrative staff have also been invited to submit their representations to the University Registrar, a University spokesperson said.

The other members of the Committee include Prof Sharfuddin from the Mathematics Department, Prof Sudeep Banerjee from the Centre for Jawaharlal Nehru Studies, Dean Students Welfare Prof Zubair Meenai, Humanities and Languages Dean S Inayat Ali Zaidi and Registrar S M Afzal.

Mercury ''touches'' 37.6 degrees in Jammu

Jammu, Apr 22 (UNI) The Winter Capital of Jammu and Kashmir was under the cover of scorching heat when the mercury level today touched 37.6 degress Celsius, official sources here said. One militant arrested, hideout busted after encounter in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 22 (UNI) One militant was killed while a hideout was busted after an encounter in the Kashmir valley overnight, official sources said today. They said the encounter took place between militants and security forces at Dever Margi in Lolab this morning during a search operation. However, militants managed to escape, later security forces recovered some arms and ammunition and rice and sugar from the hideout, official sources added.
