Invicta introduces indigenous knee replacement system

Chennai, Apr 22 (UNI) The city-based Invicta Meditek Limited today introduced India's first indigenously manufactured total knee replacement system with an US FDA approved design.

The new product 'BP Hi-Flex knee' was manufactured under license from Endotec Inc, USA, and was backed by more than 25 years of research of its founders Michael J Pappas, an internationally recognised expert in advanced design, and Frederick F Buechel, a widely respected orthopaedic surgeon, researcher and developer in the field of total joint replacement.

The BP Hi-Flex knee accommodated axial rotation that was suited for Indians whose everyday lifestyle involved squatting and bending for religious and other day-to-day activities. It had a wide-range of sizing options that match the anatomies of both women and men.

This was a 'low contact stress' knee made of Cobalt Chromium alloy with an UHMWPe mobile bearing design, which decreased the wear significantly and improved life of the implant.

Invicta planned to add hip, shoulder, ankle and spine replacement implants to its portfolio in the near future and intended to bring world class ortho implants at competitive prices to the Indian market, Invicta CEO Sathish Kumar told reporters here today.

The market for joint replacements in India was around Rs 200 crore and estimated to grow at a rate of over 40 per cent annually.

Within total joint replacement sector, knee surgeries were growing faster than the other categories and doubling every year.
