Godavari water to twin cities for drinking purpose: Minister

Hyderabad, Apr 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister P Laxmaiah today said Godavari river water would be lifted to twin- cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad to provide drinking water by taking up a lift project at Kantalapalli.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Laxmaiah said the Government was committed to provide Godavari water to the twin cities for drinking purpose. A survey was conducted and the detailed report for taking up the project would be completed in four months, he added.

Alleging that opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) senior leader and former minister T Devendar Goud was trying to gain political mileage from the issue, the minister said other political parties had also supported the Government's decision in an all-party meeting organised by the TDP this morning.

Godavari waters would permanently solve the drinking water problems of the twin cities, he added.
