Court orders compensation of Rs 16 lakhs to Delhi Constable

New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) A city court has ordered payment of compensation of Rs 16,015,000 to the family of a Delhi police constable, who was killed by a speeding truck while trying to stop it for checking.

Judge Swarn Kanta Sharma passed the order here yesterday directing the driver of the truck to pay the compensation.

The constable, Shiv Kumar Sharma, who was on duty on the intervening night of April 11, 2006 near Rajghat Ring road was hit by a speeding truck breaking the barricade and drove over his body.

He was taken to the L N J P hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Ordering the compensation, the court said, "it is the adequate compensation in view of the fact that Sharma had his 22 years of service left.'' The appplication before the court was filed by Sharma's children and his mother.

Change in group not to deter Tehran's policy: Iran

Dubai, Dec 12: Iran has said withdrawal of a key official heading the negotiating group on Iran-India gas pipeline project would not mean any change in Tehran's policy towards gas supplies to the Indian subcontinent.
