New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil has appointed Ashok Vajpeyi as the Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi.
According to an official release issued here today, Mr Vajpeyi was presently functioning as pro-term Chairman of the Akademi.
He will hold the office of Chairman till December 31, 2011, when he completes 70 years of age.
Mr Vajpeyi is an eminent Hindi poet and critic. He has served as the Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Chairman of the Bharat Bhawan Trust, Trustee of the Indira Gandhi National Centre of the Arts, member of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations and Executive Board member of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
He has also won the Dayavati Modi Kavi Shekhar Samman in 1994 and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1994, the release added.
