Another day of scorching heat in Delhi, mercury rises to 40.2 Deg C

New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) After pleasant weather in the first two weeks of April, Delhiites seem set for scorching hot conditions in the week ahead as the mercury today, continuing its upwards movement since last week, rose further to 40.2 Degree Celsius.

With the sun continuing to shine clear and bright in the sky, the maximum rose, from 39.6 degree C yesterday, to 40.2 degree C, three degrees above normal.

The minimum also rose to 23.9 degree Celsius, two degrees above normal.

Weatherman say the coming days could witness a further rise in mercury with heat wave conditions likely in plains of Northwest India including Delhi and Haryana.

''Current meteorological analysis suggests further rise in maximum temperature by 2-3 degree C over Northwest India. There is also a possibility of development of heat wave conditions over isolated pockets of north Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh&Delhi during the next 2-3 days,''the Met office said.

The weatherman have also forecast a rise in maximum temperature to 41 degree C tomorrow and 42 degree C on Thursday.

The Met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours.

Mercury ''touches'' 37.6 degrees in Jammu

Jammu, Apr 22 (UNI) The Winter Capital of Jammu and Kashmir was under the cover of scorching heat when the mercury level today touched 37.6 degress Celsius, official sources here said. However, despite some decline in the temperature after fresh snowfall on the upper reaches of Doda and Kishtwar districts and a spell of rainfall in the Jammu region last week, the mercury level has started rising upwards and it touched 37.6 degrees Celsius today,.....

One militant arrested, hideout busted after encounter in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 22 (UNI) One militant was killed while a hideout was busted after an encounter in the Kashmir valley overnight, official sources said today. They said the encounter took place between militants and security forces at Dever Margi in Lolab this morning during a search operation. However, militants managed to escape, later security forces recovered some arms and ammunition and rice and sugar from the hideout, official sources added. Security forces arrested a militant at Parnew.....

'Blow whistle, save Shimla' campaign launched on World Earth Day

Shimla, Apr 22 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Forest Minister J P Nadda flagged off the ''Seeti Bajao, Shimla Bachao'' (blow whistle, save Shimla) campaign, on the occasion of 'World Earth Day' today as part of the initiative to keep the Himachal Pradesh environment clean. Mr Nadda flagged off the campaign from the historic Ridge Maidan, which aimed at keeping Shimla free from litters and polybags. The campaign had been launched with the active participation of school.....
