Inquiry into death of Kamal Shah: Govt

Puducherry, Apr 22: The Puducherry administration will order a fullfledged inquiry into the death of life convict Kamal Shah, in the sensational Parvathy Shah rape and murder case inside the central prison here yesterday, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the Legislative Assembly today.

He was repying to a special mention tabled by member A Anabzhagan (AIADMK), Na Ra Kalainathan (CPI) and S P Sivakumar (DMK) on the issue during Zero Hour.

Moving the special mention, Mr Anbazhagan alleged that there was no security in the central prison.

He pointed out that earlier three prisoners committed suicide by consuming poisoned liquor and an inquiry Commission was constituted. No one knew about the report of the commission so far, he said adding that Kamal Shah was found dead with his throat slit and this was a well planned murder.

He said for four hours none of the senior officials, including IG prisons, turn up and demanded the government should not hide any fact.

The AIADMK leader wanted that the Chief Minister should come out with a white paper on the incident.

Mr Kalainathan said the jail employees had condemned him for speaking out the real facts while participating in the discussion on demand for grants for jail department. Two days later a prisoner from Yanam had attempted suicide and yesterday Kamal Shah was found dead. The IRB personnel would allow anyone into the prison after a thorough search and in such a situation how, Kamal Shah got the spoon with which he had reportedly slit his throat, he wondered.

Mr Kalainathan also said that Kamal Shah was selling his properties with the help of the jail authorities from inside the prison.

Mr S P Sivakumar urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to submit a detailed report in the House tomorrow.
