East Timor shaken by undersea earthquake

Jakarta, Apr 19: East Timor was affected on Saturday by an undersea quake that reportedly measured 6.4 on the Richter scale.

Reports reaching the Indonesian capital said several buildings in East Timor capital, Dili shook, but there were no reports of damage. Indonesian meteorological agency officials were quoted as saying that the epicentre of the quake was about 80 km northeast of Dili and at a depth of about 10 km. No tsunami warning was issued. East Timor lies in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire where earthquakes are said to be frequent.

Jakarta, July 26: A moderate undersea quake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted Indonesia's Aceh province today, but there were no reports of any casualties or damage, the Meteorological and Geophysics agency said. The quake's epicentre was at a depth of 10 km and 354 km southwest of the provincial capital, Banda Aceh. The agency did not issue a tsunami warning. The US Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake at 6.2......

Rains add woe after Indonesia floods, landslides

Jakarta, July 25: More rain has brought further misery to survivors of landslides and floods that have killed around 60 people on Indonesia's Sulawesi island, rescue officials said today. Days of heavy downpour have caused landslides and floods up to three metres high, submerging hundreds of homes in Central Sulawesi province, which lies about 1,700 km northeast of the capital, officials said. The poor weather and a lack of heavy equipment are hampering efforts.....
