Akademi honour for Bharathidasan varsity Prof

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 19: The Sahitya Akademi has honoured Dr V Ayothi, Professor of English, Bharathidasan University, with a national-level award in appreciation of his translation of Tamil short stories, poems and oral literature into English.

A University release here today said Dr Ayothi was one among the two translators from the southern region and the only person from Tamil Nadu to win the award, carrying a certificate and a cash prize.

The Akademi had conducted an all-India Literary Translation Competition at the end of 2007 as a fitting finale to its Golden Jubilee celebrations. Several translations from nearly 30 Indian languages were submitted and nearly half of the awards were won by translations of Bengali literature, it added.

'No decision on to extend CAS to more cities'

New Delhi, Mar 14: The government today said it had not taken any decision so far on extension of Conditional Access System (CAS) scheme, which had become functional in the notified areas of four metros of Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai, to more cities.However, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had been asked to provide its comments on extension of CAS in Zone-II areas of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, it said.In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Information and Broadcasting.....

Bngalore, Jan 7: Day 2 of the centennials celebrations was held by the Tamil Nadu Chapter. "Center for Montessori Training Chennai" came into being in 2002.They have released a book called "Montessori Upakarmangal" in their regional language and also released a c.d. called "All kinds of everything" which has some catchy tunes and can be sung along there by making music a part of the children's curriculum.The first speaker of the day was Dr.S.Anadalakshmy who spoke on.....

TNTF stage demo opposing VAT in city
