Raj Bhavan to sparkle with 'Nakshatra Garden'

Chennai, Apr 19 (UNI) The lush green environs of the sprawling Raj Bhavan in the heart of the city will soon have a 'star attraction' in the form of a 'Nakshatra Garden' on the lines of the one in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala inaugurated the 'Nakshatra Garden' by planting a sapling of the Indian Medler tree at the Raj Bhavan today. Mr Barnala was followed by his wife Surjit Kaur, family members, Secretary Sandeep Saxena and other officials.

Each of the 27 Nakshatras was associated with specific tree and plant linked to zodiac signs, according to a Raj Bhavan release here.

It is virtually a green canopy spread over the 150-acre Raj Bhavan as it is home to a variety of flora. It also plays host to many rare species like black bucks, spotted deers, albino, mongoose, jackals, varieties of reptiles and birds like partridges, pheasants, parrots, quails and paradise fly catchers.

The main lawn, oval lawn, silver jubilee garden and diamond jubilee garden with beautiful fountains and cascades enhance the beauty of the premises. Colourful lighting adds grandeur to the gardens during night.
