Pakistan congratulates Nepal on successful holding of polls

Kathmandu, Apr 19 (UNI) Pakistan has joined the international community in congratulating the people of Nepal on successful holding of the Constituent Assembly (CA) election.

''Pakistan congratulates the people of Nepal for holding CA election on April 10, 2008 in a smooth and orderly manner,'' a Pakistan Embassy statement said.

''We welcome the holding of election as a significant step which would further strengthen the democratic process in Nepal and usher the people of Nepal in an era of progress, prosperity and economic development,'' it said.

The statement also added that Pakistan hoped close and friendly relations between the two countries will continue to gain strength in years to come.

CA polls was held for the first time in Nepal on April 10 to write a new constitution. The first meeting of the CA will decide the fate of monarchy in the Himalayan nation.

Maoists, who have led the vote counting with 119 seats of the 227 declared seats, said that monarchy will be abolished on the first sitting of the CA meeting.
