Mayawati threat to UPA government not 'political decision': Congress

New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) Amid the threat by UP Chief Minister and BSP Chief Mayawati to withdraw support to the Manmohan Singh government, the Congress today sought to downplay her statement saying that "it was a reflex and not a political decision." "I am not questioning her wisdom. She also knows the interests of the nation and also that of her state," AICC General Secretary in charge of Media Veerappa Moily told mediapersons here.

Asked if the Congress did not take her threat seriously, he said ''We take her seriously...She is the Chief Minister of a state.'' "But ultimately she will have to take a political decision and not a personal decision," Mr Moily said, adding that "political decisions are not taken unilaterally. They are taken after a lot of discussion." Asked if the Congress Party took the Mayawati threat coolly, Mr Moily asked the questioner, "why should you get excited ? She is a responsible leader and her decisions will also be like that." To a question on if the Congress would seek the support of the BSP in the event of a need for the same after the 2009 General election, he said the Party would not have truck with only one party, the BJP. "As far as other parties are concerned, support will have to be given or taken in the interests of the country." UNI SH GL KN1945
