Fawlty Towers voted the most iconic TV comedy ever

London, Apr 19 : British sitcom Fawlty Towers has been voted the most iconic TV comedy of all time by viewers in a recent poll.

According to the survey, conducted by MSN Entertainment, almost a third of the respondents chose the show starring John Cleese as hotel boss Basil Fawlty.

Fawlty Towers triumphed over historical sitcom Blackadder pushing it to the second place.

'Only Fools And Horses' written by John Sullivan landed the third spot.

Basil was also crowned as Britain's favourite male TV character with Cockney wheeler-dealer Del Boy in second place.

Dawn French as the Rev Geraldine Granger in The Vicar Of Dibley was the most popular female TV character, followed by Patsy in Absolutely Fabulous.

Del Boy and his brother Rodney - as played by Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst - were voted TV's most iconic on-screen duo.

MSN organised the poll to coincide with the Bafta TV Awards, to be held in London on April 20.

"We wanted to give voters a chance to honour the cream of TV," the Mirror quoted Mike Lok of MSN Entertainment, as saying.
