Congress supports protest against gangrape: Dasmunshi

Kolkata, Apr 19 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today condemned the gangrape of a woman in Nandigram saying the Congress was supporting the state-wide protest against the incident.

'' I am shocked and condemning the incident. I already had a telephonic talk with state Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty on the matter, asking him not to go by party affiliations before arresting the culprits,'' Mr Dasmunsi said on the sidelines of a seminar on '' Dr B R Ambedkar's Life Philosophy for Emancipation of the Distressed Class,'' organised by the United Bank of India Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Employees Welfare Council here.

Reportedly, yesterday's incident was triggered by a scuffle between CPI(M) and Bhumi Uchhed Protirodh Committee(BUPC) activists, when the former had taken out a campaign rally for the panchayat elections.

Later in the night, CPI(M) activists allegedly broke into the house of Radhakrishna Ari, a close associate of All India Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, and gangraped her.
