Sportspersons deserve utmost priority in torch relay: Usha

Kozhikode, Apr 16 (UNI) Former sprint queen P T Usha today said sportspersons deserved to be given priority in the Olympic torch relay run tomorrow.

Speaking to UNI before leaving here for New Delhi to participate in the event, she however, said there was nothing wrong in involving people from other walks of life also.

Reacting to Union Sports Minister M S Gill's contention that politicians and filmstars be excluded from the event, she said the Olympic movement which symbolises peace, would be complete only with the participation of people from all walks of life.

IOA President Suresh Kalmadi, quoting International Olympic Council guidelines, also favoured participation of citizens from all walks of life in the event.
