Soon, urinals in aircraft may cut lavatory queues

London, April 16 : German manufacturers Dassel interiors have come up with a design to install urinals on passenger aircraft to reduce queues for the lavatory.

Their plan is to set up one-man units in cubicles alongside the conventional lavatories.

They say that even separate ladies' and gents' facilities are possible to be established this way.

While urinals have already been installed on some military aircraft, commercial aircraft like the A380 airbus and Boeing 747 may also see the incorporation of the new system soon.

Norbert Runn, head of business development at the company, said that urinals might be available in aeroplanes by next year.

He, however, did not reveal which airline was ready to take up the new technology.

Runn said that the introduction of urinals might be very advantageous as men formed the majority of airline passengers in economy class.

"They are smaller and take up less room than conventional toilets," the Telegraph quoted Runn as saying.

He further said that the fact that the urinals would not need to be flushed after every visit promised a potential way to save water too.
