RMPs advertising 'assured' treatment to face action

Chandigarh, Apr 16 (UNI) Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) of Homoeopathy, Ayurveda and Allopathic issuing advertisements and promising assured treatment of various ailments, including sexual ailments, are in for trouble, as the Punjab Government has decided to tighten the noose on them.

Medical Education and Research Secretary Jagjit Puri today issued directions to initiate action against all those RMPs who are advertising through various media including print, broadcast and outdoor media.

Mr Puri took a meeting of the various Heads of Councils and Boards working under the department and directed them to start a campaign to stop advertisements by RMPs as it was in violation of the guidelines of the Medical Council of India and other affiliating bodies.

''It is unfortunate that some of the leading medical practitioners of Homoeopathy, Ayurveda and Allopathic are giving advertisements and putting hoardings in different parts of the state, claiming total rejuvenation, especially in the matter of sexual problems, assuring the birth of male child. These advertisements are against provisions of various acts.'' Mr Puri added that the Local Government Department and Transport Department were also being approached to remove the hoardings of advertisements by such doctors from municipal limits and also from buses of the Transport Department.

He warned if effective steps are not taken by the RMPs themselves the Government would be forced to book the erring practitioners.
