Kochi, Apr 16 (UNI) Afghanistan Minister of Communications&Information Technology Amrzai Sangin today said Indian soap operas were popular in his country and shot down reports that they were banned in the war-ravaged country.
''Serials like 'Kasauti' and Saas bhi Khabhi Bahu thi', which were dubbed in local language and telecast, had a great fan following in Afghanistan,'' Mr Sangin told reporters here.
Dismissing reports of ban on the Indian serials, he said there was only a suggestion from the Culture Ministry to restrict these soaps and include more of local programmes.
''So far, no decision on ban had been taken,'' he confirmed.
On the recent death of two Indian workers in Afghanistan, Mr Sangin said ''there was a security problem in the southern part of the country with the advent of suicide bombers.'' He said the Afghan government was taking all steps to ensure the safety of foreign workers, especially Indians, associated with various construction projects in the country.
Mr Sangin was here to attend the second ' Connecting Rural Communities Asia Forum'.
