Kashmir: Sale of combat dress banned

Srinagar, Apr 16: The dusk to dawn curfew in five-km border belt and six hour restrictions on the movement in other areas during night will continue in the frontier district of Kupwara where authorities also banned the sale of combat dresses.

The District Magistrate of Kupwara in a notification extended curfew restrictions in the five-km border belt in the district from 2000 hrs to 0500 hrs.

He also extended the prohibitory orders under section 144 for 60 days more from 2200 hrs to 0400 hrs in the district.

However, in case of emergency, residents living in these areas had been advised to come out from their houses with lantern or any other light so that they could be identified by the security forces, deployed for counter insurgency operations.

More than 30 people, due to mistaken identity, had died after they were fired upon by the security forces during night in the Kashmir valley during the past three years.

The District Magistrate has banned sale, purchase, stitching and storage of military combat dresses in the district with immediate effect.

The concerned authorities had been directed to conduct frequent raids on shops and other establishments in their respective areas to ensure strict compliance of the order.

Official sources said the ban on combat dresses had been imposed as militants in the past carried out fidayeen attack in security force's uniforms in the valley.
