Mah Govt is preparing draft to dispose e-waste: Tope

Mumbai, Apr 16 (UNI) The Maharashtra government was preparing a draft to dispose e-waste of 11,000 tonnes in the city.

An announcement to this effect was made today by state minister Rajesh Tope in the Legislative Council while replying to a question raised by Sanjay Dutt (Congress), who wanted to know what steps has the state taken to dispose off the e-waste.

He said the state was worried about it and e-waste of 11,000 metric tonne alone was genrated by Mumbai and there was no proper way to dispose or recycle it.

Mr Tope said most of the e-waste gets deposited at Govandi or Deonar dumping grounds, eastern suburb. But, according to a recent survey, e-waste is hazardous as it contains lead, mercury and various other hazardous chemicals, he added.
