Mah Govt admits delay in completion of Brimstowad project

Mumbai, Apr 16 (UNI) The Maharashtra goverment today admitted that there was a delay in completion of Brimstowad project due to slow rehabilitation work of 15,720 people.

Urban development minister Rajesh Tope made the admission in the Legislative Council while replying a question, saying the goverment has so far given 3,000 houses to project-affected people (PAP) and others affected due to it will also be rehabilitated shortly.

The state has spent Rs 600 crore of the total expenditure of Rs 1,800 crore sanctioned for the rehabilitation of the project-affected people.

He said under the project, the people living in the slums, built before 2001, will be rehabilitated. However, a directive has been issued to take stringent action against the encroachers and if found, the concerned Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officer will be suspended.

After the completion of the project, the city's drainage system would be widended, preventing clogging of water during the monsoon season.
