Etah, Apr 16 (UNI) A day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati announced to make Kasganj state's 71st district in the name of BSP founder Kanshiram, and Aligarh 18th division, lawyers of this district today went on a strike here.
''The local advocates are agitating against the division of the district, demanding that divisional headquarters should be set up here instead of Aligarh,'' Etah district Collectorate Bar Association president Upendra Singh said here.
From the last 25 years, the issue of making Kasganj a new district was emerging, but locals wanted it to be named after Sant Tulsidas, as he was born here, he added.
On the Contrary, Ms Mayawati yesterday announced the name of this would be district as 'Kanshiram Nagar' with its district headquarters in Kasganj itself.
Besides Kasganj, this new district would include Patiali and Saron tehsils.
Saron development block has been given the status of a tehsil.
Ms Mayawati said this addressing a gathering in Agra yesterday on the occasion of Bhim Rao Ambedkar's birth anniversary.
