Ghulam Ali's former wife Afshan keen to sing for Bollywood

Patiala, Apr 16 (UNI) Begum Afshan Abbas, ex-wife of Pakistani Gazal maestro Ghulam Ali is keen to work as playback singer in Indian movies.

Here to perform a stage-show, Afshan told UNI that a Chandigarh- based music company had offered her to sing 'Gurbani', and if things worked out, she would be ''glad to lend her voice to the Gurbani as I came from 'Kassor' the land from where Sufi saint Bule Shah hails.'' Stressing upon the need to liberalise conditions for cultural exchange between two countries, Afshan, who after her debut with "Tannga wale nain..." on Pakistan radio 35 years ago, never looked back, told UNI here that since Bollywood music was also dominated by Punjabi beats, she would love to make her mark here as well.

She said that besides singing Punjabi songs she has also been singing "Kafis".

''Though I have not yet received any offer from Indian film industry, I will love to work with them'', said the Pakistani singer, whose popular Punjabi songs like "Gudi waang aaj mainu sajna udaia jaa", ''Nimmi nimmi vah wagdi rukh dolde" were great hits among Punjabi loving audience worldwide.

Since Pakistan has been producing an increasing number of Punjabi singers, it would be mutually beneficial for the entertainment sector of both nations if this talent was utilised to cater to the need of traditional and Punjabi music of Bollywood, she said.

Regarding her relations with Ghulam Ali, she said, ''We both have chosen different ways 25 years back and since the matter was personal I would not like to discuss it in front of the media''.
