Ghodawat ties-up with American Superconductor for Wind Turbine

Mumbai, Apr 16 (UNI) Ghodawat Industries (India) today announced a technical tie-up with American Superconductor Corporation, to produce 1.65 MW wind turbines locally, with an investment of Rs 100 crore.

Speaking to reporters here, Company Managing Director Shrenik Ghodawat said during the first year of operation, the new plant will produce two units and by 2009 end the quantity will increase to 50, and production will double in the subsequent two years.

Ghodawat Industries has been one of the major suppliers to the wind energy industry in India, which has been growing at over 25 per cent during the last three to four years, to attain a capacity of 7,114 MW by the end of 2007 from a mere three MW in 1986.

The Maharashtra-based company has been providing towers to major wind power farm producers Suzlon, Vestas and Enercon. It has now decided to enter the wind turbine segment and plans to export from the third year onwards.

The US technical partner had licensed its proprietary windtec WT165o wind turbine design and manufacturing know how exclusively to Ghodawat for countries in the West Asia, South Asia and Africa.
