Congress pledges development in election manifesto

Dehra Dun, Apr 16 (UNI) Committing itself to the development of Uttarakhand, the state Congress has released its manifesto for the local elections due on April 19.

The manifesto, released here yesterday, pledges to regulate the malin bastis and develop residential and slum plans for the poor in the state.

It also mentions some of the party's unfulfilled promises such as the grant of ownership rights to malin bastis.

Senior party leaders Narendra Singh Bhandari and Dinesh Aggarwal, among others, discussed the achievements of the previous N D Tiwari regime and said the party was committed to develop the state and its people.

The party also criticised the BJP for its baseless allegations and hoarding of essential goods which had caused hardship for the common man.

Declaring that it would take measures to further the development of the state, the party said it would set up e-governance facilities and master plans, besides abolition of water tax among other issues.

Orissa police arrest three Maoists

Baripada, May 22: Mayurbhanj police have arrested three Maoists, the main suspects of May 8 murder of forester Ravindra Nath Patra in Orissa. The Maoist gunmen had attacked the Sargada forest beat and shot dead the forester under Rairangpur range. Police said the arrested Maoists were also allegedly involved in a landmine blast at Sargada- Chadheipahada Road on May nine. They have been identified as Shastri Nayak of Lado village, Matka Majhi alias.....
