Cong ready to face byelections: APCC President

Hyderabad, Apr 16 (UNI) Welcoming the Election Commission's (EC) decision to hold byelections in the state, the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president D Srinivas said ''the party is ready to face the elections.'' Talking to UNI, soon after the Election Commission notification, he said the Congress had welcomed the EC's decision and the party would start the election process from now onwards.

On the party's views on forging alliance with other political parties, he said ''just now the EC has announced the date of election. The party will look into all aspects later and so far they have not discussed the matter.'' The byelection was necessitated in 16 Assembly constituencies and four Lok Sabha seats, following the resignation of the TRS Legislators and MPs, protesting against the Congress party's attitude on separate statehood for Telangana.

The Congress had contested the 2004 elections in alliance with the TRS. On the possibility of the alliance with TRS, he said ''the TRS Legislators had resigned on their own. It is better to ask this question to the TRS leaders.'' UNI BR GKT KK RK2006
