TN: Centre sanctions Rs 9.37 cr for tsunami victims

Pudukkottai, Apr 16: The Centre has sanctioned an additional sum of Rs 9.37 crore for the housing programme for the tsunami-hit people in the coastal district of Pudukkottai to provide them with basic amenities and infrastructure facilities, according to official sources here.

The sources said that initially, the Centre had sanctioned Rs 55.76 crore for the programme, being implemented under the Rajiv Gandhi Rehabilitation Package, by allocating Rs 2.38 lakh each for the 2,343 houses planned in Manamelkudi and Avudaiyarkovil areas.

A sum of Rs 40,000 would be provided to each family from the Rs 9.37 crore sanctioned this time.

While 1,712 houses would be constructed in Manamelkudi block, 631 houses would be built in Avudaiyarkovil, the sources added.
