Birlas withdraw petition for appointing administrator

New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) Birlas today withdrew their petition pending in the Supreme Court for appointing an administrator to look after the properties of M P Birla and his late wife Priyamvada Birla, having a approximate value of Rs 5000 crore.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice S B Sinha permitted the Birlas to withdraw their petitions in view of the earlier judgement of the apex court, holding that the petitioners do not have any caveatable interest in the properties and which had dismissed their petitions with a cost of Rs 2.5 lakh.

Senior Counsel Ram Jethmalani appearing for the Birlas, sought permission of the court to withdraw the petition as the same has become infructous in view of the earlier judgement of the court.

The Birlas namely, K K Birla, Vasant kumar Birla, Yashovardhan Birla and others are having a running dispute with chartered accountant Rajinder Singh Lodha for the control and ownership of the companies and assets of late Priyamvada Birla.

Lodha is claiming ownership of the companies and assets on the basis of a will allegedly executed by Priyamvada in his favour.

Birlas are, however, disputing the genuineness of the will.

Probate proceedings of the execution of the will are pending in Calcutta High Court.
