'VCK becoming powerful political movement in TN'

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 15: Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) president Thol Thirumavalavan said that his party was growing and becoming a powerful political movement in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing a rally organised as part of the party's annual award distribution function in connection with birth anniversary celeberations of Dr B R Ambedkar here last night, Mr Thirumavalavan claimed that his party would be a deciding factor in the formation of government after the 2011 Assembly elections.

He called upon the workers to work hard to strengthen the base of the party and also for getting the recognition of Election Commission for the party and symbol.

VCK legislator Selvaperunthagai, briefing newspersons on the resolutions adopted at the meeting, said the party strongly condemned the Union Government for remaining ''silent'' and showing lack of interest to find a suitable solution to the Hoganekkal comprehensive drinking water project issue.

It also demanded that the Centre effect basic changes in the economic policy to contain prise rise, immediate ban on online trading, suspend military training to Sri Lankan armed forces, waiver of loans to the tune of Rs 824 crore obtained by SCs and STs from the state-owned Tamil Nadu Adidravida Housing Development Corporation (THADO), among other things.

Mr Tirumavalavan presented awards to six outstanding personalities in various fields on the occasion. The awards carried a citation, a memento and a purse of Rs 50,000.
