Arunachal Governor calls for lasting peace

Itanagar, Apr 15: Reiterating his commitment towards the Arunachalees, Governor General(Retd) J J Singh today advocated for an urgent corrective measures to nip the problem of insurgency in its bud in the Tirap and Chnglang districts.

Claiming that the state continued to remain an 'Island of Peace' in the North East region, the Governor said that barring a few sporadic incidents of violence in Tirap and Changlang districts, the overall law and order situation in the state was normal during the past year. The Governor was addressing the first anniversary celebration of Dorjee Khandu government at Indira Gandhi Park here this morning as the chief guest.

''Development can not be achieved when there is an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. In order to bring back normalcy, the state government had initiated necessary steps,'' he said adding that no outside force would be allowed to affect peace in the state.

Highlighting the achievements of the state government in the past year, the Governor lauded Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and his cabinet colleagues for their tireless efforts in bringing development to the state.

Pointing out at the age-old relationship between Assam and Arunachal, the Governor urged Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to take necessary steps in resolving the age-old boundary dispute between the two neighbours.

Stating that the state offered vast scope in the tourism sector, the Governor stressed on creating more tourism infrastructure in the state, which could be a money spinner for the state's development.

''Arunachal Pradesh should be considered as the crown of India and with its development the entire country will develop,'' he added.

Institute to study seismic activity in NE: Govt
