Punjab: 2 opium smugglers escape from lock-up

Amritsar, Apr 14: Two opium smugglers today escaped from the police lock-up in Maqboolpura police station.

According to police sources, the two smugglers identified as Kishori Paswan of Bihar and Rajesh Pardhan from Jagadhri in Haryana escaped from the lockup. They managed to open their handcuffs and then sneaked out of the police station without being noticed.

The SHO of the police station was away to Ludhiana for some official work today. The matter is being probed and accordingly action would be taken against the errant policemen, sources said.

The two smugglers were nabbed on April 10 with five kg opium and were on police remand.
