Russian Navy to fight pirate attacks on its civilian ships

Moscow, Apr 14 (UNI) Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky today said the Navy will fight pirate attacks on its civilian ships in different parts of the world.

''Our ships, crews and cargos need protection. The recent seizure of the tugboat Svtizer Korsakov with Russian crewmembers off the coast of Somalia confirms that,'' Vysotsky told Interfax news agency.

The growing number of pirate attacks on Russian and foreign ships confirmed the correctness of the policy of the Russian military leadership to resume the presence of Russian warships in all oceans, especially in areas of intensive fishing and shipping, he noted.

However, we cannot return to all problem-ridden parts of the oceans overnight. We have to work much to this end but the comeback process has begun,'' Mr Vysotsky said.
