Minister's convoy attacked in MP

Shivpuri, MP, Apr 14 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Jyotiraditya Scindia's secretary and others were and looted in this district by some unidentified ruffians who targeted a vehicle in the Minister's convoy.

The victims of last night's incident were administered first aid at the District Hospital.

Confirming the attack, which took place in Badarwas Police Station limits, Superintendent of Police Dinesh Chandra Sharma said, ''a case was registered under the Anti-Dacoity Act against the accused who may be locals.'' A cordon was set up and a search was underway.

Mr Scindia was visiting his parliamentary constituency Guna and Shivpuri after being bestowed the ministerial responsibility. He was en route to Gwalior when a vehicle in his convoy suffered a tyre puncture.

Secretary Purushottam Parashar, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Sub-Divisional Officer C P Khare, driver Purushottam Jatav and two others were assaulted. Gold rings, Rs 1,100 and four cellphones were looted.

Global price rise: UK Supermarkets for rationing rice

London, Jun 1: The global price rise in the international market has forced some of the major Supermarkets for rationing rice after panic-buying by customers worried about food shortage. However, most of the limits have been introduced in areas of Leicester which have large Asian populations. Retailers including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Lidl have introduced quotas for the staple food, which has increased in price worldwide by 70 per cent in a year.
