Bihar: Maoists loot huge cache of arms from GRP

Jamui, Apr 14: The proscribed CPI(Maoist) swooped down on the Jhajha railway station killing six people, including five police personnel last night and also decamped with a huge cache of arms and ammunition, police said today.

The looted arms and ammunition included 13 SLR, four carbine, 27 rifles and 508 live cartridges, they added.

Two policemen of the State Auxiliary Police(SAP) Arun Kumar and Subhash Kumar, three of the Government Rail Police (GRP) Umesh Singh(ASI), Dharmender Singh and Pramod Kumar Sharma and a porter Yeshwant Singh were killed in the attack yesterday.

Twelve people, including officer in-charge of the rail police station Jhajha Shakti Verma, ASI J P Mishra and RPF personnel K D Yadav, were also seriously injured, police added.

The Maoists looted arms and ammunition, blew up overhead wires and other communication systems in the stations delinking all communication links with the Jhajha railway station.

Train services on up and down lines, remained stranded at different outer signals on the route.

Raids were on under Vinay Kumar(Jamui SP) to nab the maoists, sources said, adding a female member of the the outfit was arrested and being interrogated to trace whereabouts of other members.

Several female members of the outfit were also involved in the attack, which was unique in the region, police informed.

The Maoists had also called a 24-hour bandh in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa and Chhattisgarh on April 16, in protest against the killings of their comrades in police encounter at Garhwa in Jharkhand.

Bihar: Two electrocuted in Dalit Basti

Sheohar, May 23: Two people, including a woman, were electrocuted at Dalit Basti early this morning when a live electric wire fell on a hut. District Police Superintendent Ajay Kumar Mishra said that the couple, fast asleep in their hut, came in contact with live wire, which accidentally got detached from the pole due to poor maintenance of the power distribution system.
