Election campaign starts before releasing list of candidates

Mysore, Apr 14 (UNI) Ticket aspirants of various political parties have started campaigning to woo the voters even before the opening of nominations on April 16, for the next month's Karnataka Legislative Assembly election.

Prospective candidates of BJP kickstarted their campaign by addressing the voters at various localities, while the Congress and JD(S) ticket aspirants began their door-to-door campaigning.

However, the BJP has released a list of 170 candidates.

Former Minister G T Deve Gowda, the BJP candidate from Hunsur, kickstarted his campaign by holding a bike rally in Hunsur, as Kannada actor-Director wife of the BJP candidate from Kollegal, Shruthi Mahander, took part in the campaign along with Mr C H Vijayashankar, MP.

Mr H S Shankaralinge Gowda, who has won three elections in a row from Chamaraja Assembly constituency in the city on a BJP ticket, is seeking re election from the constituency.

After the delimitation process, some of the polling booths coming under Chamaraja constituency had been shifted to Krishnaraja constituency, where BJP candidate A Ramadas was the first to launch the election campaign among the prospective candidates in his party.

Even his rival, Mr M K Somshekara of the Congress launched the campaign before his party announced his candidature for the seat.

Mr Sumashekar, a staunch supporter of former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was trying for party a ticket along with Congress leaders Ravishankar and former Dryland Development Board Chairman K R Mohan Kumar, who is the confidant of former Union Minister V Srinivasa Prasad.

Film Producer and former Chairman of Mysore Urban Development Authority Sandesh Nagaraj, who is aspiring for a JD(S) ticket, has launched a door-to-door campaign long with brother Corporator Sandesh Swamy.
