Washington, Apr 14 : Troubled pop star Britney Spears had a close escape after running into a minor car-accident on the highway in Los Angeles on April 12.

The 26-year-old star was driving her 2008 white Mercedes northbound on the 405 connector to the 101 freeway when the collision occurred at 8:18 p.m., confirmed the California Highway Patrol.

According to the accident report, Britney did try to apply brakes but the car banged into a Nissan in front of her.

"The collision occurred when the driver of the Mercedes, driving in the 3 lane, in stop and go traffic failed to observe the vehicle directly ahead of her come to a complete stop. She attempted to brake but failed to stop her vehicle prior to colliding into the rear of the Nissan [in front of her]," People quoted the report, as stating.

This led the Nissan to collide into another car, which was not damaged and according to reports no one was injured in the accident.

Later that night, the 'Toxic' star went out to dinner at Dominick's in West Hollywood accompanied by her mother Lynne, but driven by her bodyguards.
