Aurangabad, Apr 14 (UNI) The Archaeological Survey of India(ASI) has initiated steps for preserving the 13th century old Sun Temple at Deo in Aurangabad district of Bihar.
Superintendent of Delhi circle of ASI Dr Dharamvir Sharma told news persons here today that the famous Sun Temple was constructed at Deo in the eighth century.
'' In view of its historical and tourism importance, the ASI is taking steps to conserve this great cultural heritage of Bihar, '' he added.
'' With the help from the Bihar government and local district administration, the ASI has worked out an impressive plan to conserve the Deo Sun Temple, which is a marvel of Indian Architecture, '' he observed.
Dr Sharma stated that a similar Sun Temple existed at Osian in Jodhpur district of Rajsthan which was also constructed during the eigth century.
'' Usually, the main entrance of Sun Temple is located towards east but the entrance of both Osian and Deo temples is oriented towards West, '' he said adding it appeared that both temples were constructed during the same period of history.
Senior journalist and writer Ranjan Kumar Singh, who conducted an indepth research on Deo Sun Temple, said there was enough ground for it to be declared as conserved cultural heritage by the ASI.
