Woman gives birth to twins on hospital's stairs

Satna, MP, Apr 12 (UNI) After a strenuous two-and-a-half hour journey on a tractor-trolley to cover 65 km distance from a remote village, a woman gave birth to two baby girls at the stairs of the district hospital here last night.

Pratappur village-resident Neeta (28), who was accompanied by her husband Basantlal Pandey, was forced by the hospital staff to wander from one place to another to complete the formalities after their arrival at 2000 hrs.

Having failed to get admitted in one-and-half hour, the woman, who was in labour, ultimately took shelter at the staircase to deliver the twins, Mr Pandey told newspersons.

The woman was later admitted to the ward after some mediapersons gathered at the hospital premises.

District Chief Medical Officer H L Mishra said an enquiry would be conducted into the alleged laxity and guilty would be punished.
