Subsidy rice scheme to be transparent: Reddy

Hyderabad, Apr 11 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the 'Rs two a kilo rice scheme' launched in the state on April nine would be implemented in a transparent manner by giving no room for misappropriation and pilferage.

Addressing a press conference after a review meeting with the officials, Dr Reddy said strict vigil would be maintianed by the Vigilance and Enforcement department to avoid any misuse.

He said vacancies in the Vigilance and Enforcement department would be filled up for its effective functioning.

Dr Reddy said the government had been supplying rice to 1.87 crore white ration card holders.

The government was also taking steps to supply rice through fair price shops from fifth to 22nd every month and later from first to 22nd of every month to enable the dealers to keep sufficient stocks for supply for the next month.

The Chief Minister said strict action would be taken against dealers who were found keeping extra cards.

He claimed a good response from the public to the scheme.
