Sibal rules out impact of inflation on Karnataka poll

Banglore, Apr 12 (UNI) All India Congress Committee(AICC) Media Management Chairman and Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal today ruled out any adverse impact of inflation on the ensuing Assembly elections to Karnataka.

Talking to newspersons here, he said inflation is a worldwide phenomenon and the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government at the Centre could not be held responsible for the plight. The Government would, however, take adequate steps to combat it, he added.

Mr Sibal also said inflation is all-time high and the Government is concerned about it, adding stringent measures would be initiated to curb it, he added.

The Minister criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) for taking political mileage on the issue and challenged it for a debate on a common platform.

He demanded an explanation from the BJP for forging an alliance with the JD (S), when it had no common ideology with it.

He alleged that the BJP was also instrumental in the fall of the Dharam Singh Government and the formation of the JD(S)-BJP combine when a section of the JD(S) members, led by H D Kumarasamy, son of Mr Deve Gowda, revolted against the parent party.

He said the people were aware that only the Congress, with its commitment to ideology, could provide a stable Government to the State for another five years.

A list of candidates for the first phase of the poll, along with the party manifesto, would be released soon, he added.
