Rly workshop in TN to export 23 coaches to Tanzania

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 12 (UNI) The Golden Rock Railway Workshop here will export 23 metre gauge coaches to Tanzania, according to Chief Workshop Manager S Rangarajan.

Speaking at the 53rd Railway Week celebrations organised by the Workshop here yesterday, he said the modification works of the coaches were in the final stage.

The workshop had earned a revenue of Rs 22 crore by overhauling 20 diesel locomotives belonging to PSUs. It had despatched 1,780 low flat container wagons to the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) at a cost of Rs 415 crore. The workshop had also bagged a Rs 285 crore order from CONCOR for 1,125 container wagons.

Mr Rangarajan also pointed out that the Railways had sanctioned Rs 120 crore for modernising the workshop. It would also enable the workshop to renovate 4,000 horsepower diesel engines, besides increasing the production of wagons to 1,000 per annum, he added.

A top Pakistani Supreme Court official shot dead

Islamabad, May 14: Unknown gunmen today killed an additional registrar of Pakistan Supreme Court in Islamabad, hours ahead of the scheduled hearing of the petition of the suspended top judge Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Senior police officials said unknown assailants entered house of Syed Hamid Raza in the morning and shot him dead. Reasons for the murder were not immediately known, which came two days after bloodiest violence in Karachi where 36 people were killed.....
