Mumbai, Apr 12 (UNI) Bandra Police is keeping a strict vigil here at Bandra Bandstand and is abstaining young couples from sitting on rocks near the seashore, after a youth was washed away by high tide.
Senior Police Inspector Prakash George said, ''After yesterday's incident, we are even more vigilant. Local police officials are visiting the area on a regular basis.'' ''We do not want any other person to lose his life and are preventing couples from sitting near the seashore, as per the capacity of the available staff,'' Mr George added.
A youth died last night while trying to save two couples from drowning at the Bandra Bandstand. Two teenaged couples were saved but Mohan Redkar, a diesel mechanic from Mahindras who tried to save the couples, lost his life.
Rukayna Khan, Mohammed Illyas, Ruksana Khan and Asif Khan had gone to Bandstand and were unaware of the high tide. By the time they could do something, it was late and the rising water surrounded them.
Redkar urged the couples to hold on for sometime so that he could save them.
''According to the sisters, Redkar was aware of the rising water level, but that did not stop him from trying his best to rescue them,'' an officer, who is investigating the case, said.
Rukayna and Ruksana are sisters and are students of SNDT college, while Illyas and Asif are workers at an air conditioning unit in Kurla, in Central Mumbai, police said.
