NTR award for eminent Telugu poet Somasunder

Tirupati, Apr 12 (UNI) Prominent Telugu ''sahityaveta'', Avanstya Somasunder, would be honoured with the NTR National Award for an outstanding literary personality for 2008 here.

The award will be given away on May 28, NTR's birthday at Ravindra Bharati in Hyderabad, ''NTR Vignan Trust'', which was established last year, Chairman Lakshmi Parvathi said in a press conference here today. The award also carries a citation and a cash award of Rs 1 lakh.

After constituting the trust, the first award was given to Kannada novelist Santeshivara Linganniah Bhyrappa last year, Ms Parvathi said, adding in memory of NTR, the trust gives awards to prominent poets in 24 languages every year.

For 2008, poet Somasunder's name was selected unanimously by a five-member jury, which met under the Chairmanship of senior journalist Potturi Venkateswara Rao in this temple town today.

India to continue rehabilitation process in Afghanistan: Antony

Precious stones seized at NSCBI airport

Kolkata, Apr 12 (UNI) Customs officials at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport have seized precious stones - ruby and sapphire - worth Rs 19 lakh from a garments carrier. sources said here today. President arrives in Lisbon
