Haryana to launch state-wide campaign for seed treatment

Chandigarh, Apr 12 (UNI) Haryana Agriculture Department has decided to launch a state-wide campaign from May 10 to 25 for 100 per cent seed treatment, before sowing crops during this Kharif season.

While stating this here today, Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha said that realising the contribution of seed treatment in the improvement of crop yield, the state government had decided to launch the campaign to make the farmers aware about the benefits of seed treatment and ensure that 100 per cent seeds of kharif crops should be treated before sowing.

He said the institutional agencies and private dealers had been advised that only treated seeds should be supplied to the farmers.

The Agriculture Minister said that field officers of the Department had been directed to prepare block-wise action plan of the district well before the sowing of crops spelling out the day-wise and village-wise farmers training programme to educate the farmers regarding importance of seed treatment. They would also demonstrate the scientific techniques of seed treatment.

He said that Input supplying agencies, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Kisan Clubs, NGOs, and State Agricultural University would also be involved in this campaign.
