Govt committed to complete pending irrigation projects: Ajit Pawar

Sangli, Maharashtra, Apr 12 (UNI) Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Ajit Pawar today said the state government is pursuing with the Centre for financial assistance for completing pending irrigation projects.

The Minister was speaking at the 9th Irrigation Parishad organised here today.

Mr Pawar assured that the ''Takari-Mhaishal'' and ''Tembu'' irrigation projects in the Krishna river basin will be completed in time. These two projects, he said, would greatly benefit the drought-prone Sangli and Satara districts. These projects will be completed through the Union Government's ''Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP)'', he said.

Mr Pawar informed that over the last 50 years, Rs 40,000 crore had been spent on irrigation projects in the state and 54 lakh hectares of land had been brought under irrigation.
