Financial assistance to all farmers: CM

Hyderabad, Apr 12 (UNI) The Centre is considering financial assistance to farmers, who were not benefitted by the Rs 60,000 crore loan waiver scheme, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said today.

Participating in a ''Prajapatham'' programme in Mominpet in the Rangareddy district, he thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the loan waiver scheme, which had benefitted 78 lakh farmers.

However, over 32 lakh farmers, who had promptly repaid their loans getting loans from private money lenders, had not benefitted from the scheme, he said, adding an assistance of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 each to such farmers were being considered.

Alleging that the previous TDP Government had shown discrimination in selection of beneficiaries for housing and pension, he said the Congress government had taken up the ''Indiramma'' scheme to help the poor people.

Mr Reddy said his government had fulfilled all major poll promises, including Rs two-a-kg-rice scheme, free power to farmers and waiver of electricity dues of farmers.
