EU on Tibetan agitation
New Delhi, Apr 12: The Chinese Foreign Ministry has charged the European Parliament with interfering in the country's internal affairs by passing a resolution on Tibet.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu said on Friday night that the resolution, adopted after secessionists-instigated violent unrests ravaged Lhasa and other ethnic Tibetan areas last month, had hurt the sentiments of the people of China. The resolution has urged European Union leaders to boycott the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics unless the Chinese government resumes talks with the Dalai Lama.

Jiang said in a statement that the resolution "flagrantly distorted the history and modern reality of Tibet, rudely interfered into China's internal affairs, openly supported the secessionist stand of the Dalai Lama, confounded black and white on the violent crimes in Lhasa, groundlessly condemned the Chinese government, deliberately linked the Tibet issue with the Beijing Olympics, and seriously hurt the feelings of the Chinese people."

"China is resolutely opposed to and strongly indignant over the resolution," said Jiang, adding the Tibet issue completely belongs to China's internal affairs, which brooks no interference of any foreign country or international organization.

"The European Parliament turned a blind eye to facts. It did not condemn the Dalai clique who masterminded and organized the violent crimes, but instead emboldened the 'Tibet independence' violence and Dalai's separatist activities," said Jiang.

"We strongly demand the European Parliament respect facts, stop interfering into China's internal affairs, give up provocation and antagonism, and discard double standards on human rights issues," she said.
