Doctors conduct unique surgery on 15-yr-old

Mysore, Apr 12 (UNI) In a unique brain surgery, second in India and 19th in the world, a 15-year-old boy was successfully operated upon at the Apollo BGS Hospital here today.

Speaking to newspersons, Consultant Neuro surgeons of the Hospital Anil Singh and Ramesh Ranganathan Saida said a similar surgery was performed in Thiruvananthapuram for the first time in India.

They said out of 19 surgeries, three cases were treated successfully.

The boy had symptoms of brain tumor and was admitted to the hospital recently, The patient had sought attention with minimal complaints of increasing weight and minimal difficulty in walking.

The initial report had suggested a malignant brain tumor with poor prognosts.

They said the surgery involved careful dissection under the microscope. Neordenduscopil assistance was used as an adjunct to achieve complete removal. The biopsy report also confirmed the epidermold tumor. The boy's improvement was amply evident of no neurological deficits, they added.
