Dispute over Guru Granth Sahib's 'maryada' settled amicably

Sriganganagar, Apr 12 (UNI) A dispute over installation of the Guru Granth Sahib for non-stop recital during the Baisakhi mela at a tomb(memorial) of a saint in Battiwala village in this district, was settled amicably through dialogue.

According to reports, the organisers of the Baisakhi mela at Sant Iekamdas' Memorial in Battiwala were planning to take the Guru Granth Sahib for Akhand Path(non-stop recital) during the mela, but some activists of Noor Khalsa Fauj, a Sikh Youth outfit, opposed the move saying that the installation of Guru Granth Sahib at a tomb was against the Sikh religious maryada(decorum).

However, the organisers were of the view that this tradition of Akhand Path in the mela was being observed for past several years.

Sensing tension between the two groups Sub Division Magistrate (SDM) Jai Singh Sahu and other officials intervened immediately and persuaded both the parties to ensure continuation of year-long tradition with full Sikh religous decorum.

Meanwhile, the Noor Khalsa Fauj activists prevented violation of Guru Granth Sahib's maryada by a sevadar(Sikh priest) of 47F village, who allegedly used occult ''tantrik'' means in solving people's problems.

The tantrik sevadar had reportedly admitted his mistake and assured not to violate religious maryada in future.
